Our Story: Why We Love Offering Dog Sled Tours
We are two mushers who
share a passion for dog sledding, life, adventure, and story telling.
We met in the Fall of 2010 through a mutual friend. “Uh-oh,” he said when he introduced us, “You two are going to hit it off big.”
Boy, was he right.
We soon realized that we were both obsessed with sled dogs and shared the same dream: to be IDITAROD CHAMPIONS. Over the course of a winter, our friendship grew into something more and it was as if we could see our whole lives together.
In 2012 we decided to take a leap of faith and chase our dreams. We decided to start our own business offering dog sled tours. We called it Turning Heads Kennel because our goal has always been to turn people’s heads on the race trail. Our road has not always been easy. We underestimated the difficulties of starting our business.
Our house flooded right after we purchased it.
We have danced with failure more often than we care to admit but we have not let that stop us
Because we are determined to do GREAT THINGS
Although hard at times, the journey has been more than worth it because we are together, doing what we love and have the opportunity to share our passion through our dog sled tours and through social media.
In 2013 Travis realized his life long dream by running the Iditarod. At the finish line, after journeying 1,000 miles with his dogs, he asked Sarah to marry him. She said yes. Today we continue to develop our dog sled tour business, work on creating new ways to engage with the mushing community, and, of course, train our wonderful sled dogs.
We love sharing this great sport with the world and it is our goal to provide the best dog sled tours in all of Alaska. Though we are young, we are ambitious. We continue to learn each day and we strive to bring smiles wherever we go. When you go on one of our dog sled tours or sponsor our kennel, you fill us with incredible joy because you are helping us live out our dream of becoming Iditarod Champions.
