We never truly had a winter here in Seward. It rained, more frequently than we care to admit, and it got cold, once or twice, but we never got to relish in having snow outside our door or in our dog lot.
But now that summer is fast approaching that we are so excited about finally getting to be on snow in Seward. You see, we are returning to our home on Godwin Glacier where we will give summer dog sled tours on snow through mid-Septemeber. The great irony is that due to the terrible weather conditions in Alaska, we weren’t able to give a single dog sled tour on snow this winter!
Our home on Godwin Glacier is located at 3300′ elevation and while Seward has gotten no snow, the mountain tops are an entirely different story. After weeks of rain in April, when the weather finally broke we were rewarded with epic views of snow capped Mountains.
You can see why we love living here.
Today, our helicopter arrived to help bring us back to the winter wonderland we love so much. We can continue training dogs on snow and, more importantly, we can share our passion for dog sledding with summer time visitors to our state.
Sharing our love for dog sledding is, to us, what it’s all about! We have worked hard to try and provide good updates throughout the season and have made some exciting changes so that we can be more interactive than ever before.
One of our kennel goals is to share and educate people about the wonderful sport of dog sledding and the summer provides an excellent opportunity to reach out and connect with folks who have had no previous experience with mushing experience.
In the following days, we will be busy bringing supplies up to our camp. If you haven’t seen it, the travel channel show Alaska Starts Here did a great job filming and recording our camp set up in 2014 and showcased one of the dog sled tours we ran.
We are so excited about this summer, the return of our excellent crew, and to meet all the wonderful guests who will be visiting us for summer dog sled tours!
