Remote Dog Sledding Camp Manager

The primary responsibility of the camp manager is to ensure that camp is being properly run, that the dogs are being properly cared for, and that the tours being given meet our company expectations for excellence.  As camp manger, you are ultimately responsible for what happens up at our glacier dog camp and are in charge of both the guides and the handlers.

Sled Dog Camp Manager Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Make Sure That Dogs Remain in A Healthy Working Weight
  • Ensure that proper Dog Care is Being Given At All Times
  • Make Sure Guides are Doing There Jobs
  • Ensure the Cleanliness of Camp
  • Keep Dog Camp Level
  • Move Tents and dog houses, on regular ongoing  basis
  • Ensure that trails get scooped at the end of each day
  • Ensure that helicopter is being used effectively to fly out garbage and unused camp supplies
  • Keep Ground Staff alert of camp needs
  • Keep Guides on Schedule with Tours
  • Run Tours When Necessary; Help Manage Larger Groups

Minimum Requirements to be A Dog Sled Camp Manager

Minimum of 2 years/seasons working with sled dogs with appropriate references. Distance mushing experience preferred but similar experience with sprint dogs is also accepted. Experience with  feeding, dog care, especially with proper foot care,  is essential.

Ideal candidates will have had more experience than the minimum requirements and be able to provide solid references on their mushing experience as well as on their dog care. Racing background is preferred but not necessary. [

Physical Requirements for Mushing Camp Manager

Living in a remote camp with sled dogs requires extreme physical fitness. The ability to lift 50lbs bags of dog food as well as full 5-gallon buckets of water or kibble are essential to being able to run camp effectively. As the leader in camp, a good work ethic is required.
